I just want to ask if it is legal to get CBD hemp oil in Ireland ? I have been talking to other parents who are seeing good results using CBD on their autistic/ ADHD kids in the US. I live in Ireland and I would like to try cbd on my 9 yr old autistic daughter. I can easily order it on Amazon but I’m not sure if it is legal to do so. Thank you

Unfortunately all cannabis and cannabis derived or based products are illegal in Ireland at this time and not recognised as medicinal. Hemp itself is not illegal and is grown and produced in Ireland, but there is a big difference between the 2 :
Hemp oil or hempseed oil is obtained by pressing hemp seeds. Hempseed oil is manufactured from varieties of Cannabis sativa that do not contain significant amounts of THC , the psychoactive element present in the cannabis plant.
“Hemp seed oil has long been recognized as one of the most versatile and beneficial substances known to man. Derived from hemp seeds, it has been regarded as a superfood due to its high essential fatty acid content and the unique ratio of omega3 to omega6 and gamma linolenic acid (GLA) – 2:5:1. Hemp seed oil, is known to contain up to 5% of pure GLA, a much higher concentration than any other plant, even higher than spirulina.”
“Cannabis oil, which is commonly known as hash oil but sometimes called hemp oil as per Rick Simpson, comes from the leaves of the cannabis plant. It contains the compound THC in varying amounts (depending on how the oil has been processed).
Cannabis oil also contains other compounds, such as CBDS. Cannibidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive component of cannabis that possesses a wide range of therapeutic benefits.” This oil is unfortunately illegal in most countries but, in some Western countries though, cannabis oil has been legalised.

1) it is legal to raise industrial hemp in Ireland, provided the THC is below 0.03% ?
2) If yes, is a permit required for this?
3) Are you familiar with any benefits of oils extracted from such a grade of hemp ( low or no THC) for medical uses?
4) Is the CBD content of low THC hemp so different from the strains containing higher THC?

Sorry for the delay in our response to your enquiry on our blog a few days ago, we hope this will answer a few questions for you and open up new questions at the same time.
You ask us if ‘it is legal to raise industrial hemp in Ireland, provided the THC is below 0.03%’ ? Well it is and it isn’t, it is with the proper permit from the department of Justice, without the proper permit it is still illegal to grow industrial hemp no matter what the THC level is.
We are under the impression, from the hemp seed we are currently looking to import, that the content of THC is lower than 0.04%, but we aren’t 100% sure which is correct.
Second question: ‘If Yes, is a permit required for this’, the answer is the same as above, but to add a bit more. From our understanding of the permit requirement, you need to have at least 10 acres of land, not seen from any road and have an end user for the product before a permit will be considered. We have been informed this year alone over 20 new farmers have requested permits from the department of Justice. How many have been issued I do not have that information. For the planting season is almost upon us, any new inquiry would be aimed at the 2015 growing season, as planting season will be end of this month early next month.
Next question: ‘benefits of oils extracted from such a grade of hemp (low or no THC) for medical use’ Well the claim is now that a high CBD hemp oil, works for many medical conditions, not as many as the oils with the higher THC levels and the CBD levels, but still working for some aliments. A seed company in Holland has already started with the CBD oil, in some eastern European countries they are selling industrial hemp for their CBD levels, for medical conditions. Due to different laws applying in different countries, some countries allow the open sale of the CBD oil, some will not, some countries already sell THC oil. Ireland is not as progressive as other countries. There is a market for cold pressed hemp oil, for the health food market, as it is very high in polyunsaturated omega-3, -6 & -9 fatty acids, and the oil typically accounts for 30-35% of the seed weight. Hemp seed also contains a high quality vegetable protein (25%) that is easily digested, carbohydrates (30%), moisture, vitamins, minerals, phytoseterols and polyphenols. Hens feed whole hempseed, hempseed meal or hempseed oil mixed with their normal feed will produce fine tasting Omega-3 eggs. So the answer is YES, hempseed oil, is very beneficial.
Last question: ‘Is the CBD content of low THC hemp so different from the strains containing higher THC’, To my knowledge no the CBD is the same, the percents may vary but the effect from the CBD would be the same. As the Industrial Hemp has a lower THC level, due to a few factors contributing to the plant not producing THC in high levels, one being the density of the crop itself. However the CBD level and quality seem not to be effected by overcrowding in the fields. So in answer to your questions, it would appear that the CBD level for Industrial hemp and any higher THC strain of the plant will be the same.
We do hope this has answered your questions, there is so much more we could write but to write too much may just confuse as much as it will answer questions.

I’ve been thinking of ordering CBD oil off amazon, my girlfriend was diagnosed with cervical cancer in October 2014, today we were told that it hasn’t been defeated, rather it has got stronger! The legal status does not bother me as I no the good it does.

Hi Ross, sorry to hear about your girlfriend, the true Rick Simpson oil that cures cancer is not available on Amazon, in fact he does not sell it so beware of scammers. The best advise we could give is for you to try and get to a country where it is legal.

Cannabis oil is needed, which is unfortunately illegal in most countries. THC & CBD’s are needed. Sorry to hear about your arthritis.
Hemp oil can be purchased in most health stores, but unfortunately you would require the Cannabis Oil for the medicinal benefits, which is illegal in most countries due to the laws.
In California and Colorado, you can purchase the Rick Simpson Oil from a medicinal dispensary. It is also available in another 18 American states, in Holland/Spain/Czech Republic. In Europe you can also get Cannabis legally for Medicinal use, and make the oil. However as of now in Ireland you must break the law if you want to try this method of medicine, which as an Irish business we must suggest you don’t do that. There are a few other countries around the world that have moved to give their citizens a chance at the alternative way to treat serious illness’, Israel/Canada for two that come to the top of our heads.
We hope we have been a bit of help, it is very difficult for us to give you information, as it may be misunderstood by people that we are helping you break the law, which of course we would not do so. So Please keep doing your research on line, as there are more and more people giving information on this subject.

It is never really a good idea to put anything besides oxygen into your lungs, so smoking is not the best. Luckily due to all the advancement in cannabis around the world, they discovered vaporising. Which is a quick way of getting the necessary components of the cannabis plant into your system, but it can still be very rough on the throat and lungs. The oil is very powerful and can take some time to work itself into the system but the body does benefit tremendously. It would also depend on what ailment was being treated. The hemp oil that has gained headlines for killing cancer is from the oil extracted from the buds(flowers) of the female plant, it is unfortunately illegal in Ireland. Hopefully it will not remain so. Also, do not buy any of this oil online, as scammers are well aware of this .

A licence for the cultivation of certain varieties of hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) for fibre use will only be granted by the Minister for Health and Children under the above Acts, to persons who are entitled to and intend making application to the Department of Agriculture and Food for a subsidy under the EU Aid Scheme for the production of hemp under Council Regulation (EC) No. 1251/1999 (as amended) and who occupy and farm not less than 3 hectares (7.4 acres) of utilised agricultural land (including rough grazing, commanage and/or mountain grazing).
We get this question quite a lot, so to make you aware, we abide by Irish and EU law. Regulation (EC) 1672/2000 states that cannabis sativa plants containing 0.2% tetrahydrocannabinol or less can be approved for cultivation as hemp with a licence. There has been quite a lot of red tape but we can confirm we are Hempture 100% legally operational. The crop is grown under strict licence from the relevant government department.
The processing of the Hemp and the derived products are conditions of the Licence which can vary, our crops are located around the EU and each has different licence conditions. I couldn’t see why it would be a problem if you brought over Cannabis Seeds and nutrients from main land Europe. As you know the Cannabis Seeds would only be for souvenir purposes but if you mix it with the same shipment as your nutrients, people might assume that you could be growing this, which would be illegal.
If anything, maybe check out some grow shop here in Ireland, they might be able to help you.

The department that issues the license to yourself would be the best people to ask.
The one license I have had the pleasure of looking at, clearly stated the farmer was not allowed to sell the flower/leafs or any part other than the stock of the plants.
So I think it will depend on what you have asked for in your request. there is a hemp co-op in Ireland, they have monthly meetings, as well, they are the ones to be asking these sort of questions to ask.

At this moment in time we are not aware of any license required to open a shop that sell this.
There are already 2 café’s that are selling CBD flowers in Waterford and they don’t have to have a license.
